Vision Church is one of the longest-standing Christian ministries in the metaverse a non-denominational, Spirit-filled church rooted in Pentecostal background, built on the conviction that the gospel of Jesus Christ belongs everywhere His people can be found. For nearly two decades, we have carried that conviction into virtual worlds, believing firmly that when Jesus said “go into all the world,” He did not exclude the metaverse.
We exist to preach the Good News, build genuine community, and create an immersive, welcoming space where anyone regardless of background, denomination, or history can encounter the living God and grow in His Word.
Vision Church was founded in July 2007 by Pastor David Mullins in the virtual world of There.com. From the very beginning, the mission was simple: go where the people are and preach the gospel. The church grew quickly as word spread that something real was happening in a digital space people were finding faith, finding community, and finding Christ in the metaverse long before it became a mainstream conversation.
When There.com announced its closure, Vision Church made the move to the virtual world of Kaneva in early 2010, completing the transition ahead of the shutdown without missing a beat in ministry. That same year, the church made history by becoming the first virtual church ministry to broadcast Sunday services on television a broadcast. Leadership made the decision to redirect those resources into direct web livestreaming, one of the earliest bets on digital-first ministry that would come to define the era.
Vision Church has never seen itself as just a congregation it has carried a sense of responsibility to the wider metaverse church community from its earliest days.
In 2010, Pastor Mullins founded The Virtual Covenant of Faith & Unity, bringing together ministries and leaders from across religious backgrounds around a shared framework for how faith communities could coexist and cooperate in virtual worlds.
Vision Church also played a leading role in the Virtual World Leadership Council (V.L.C.), hosting the inaugural V.L.C. conference an annual gathering that continued throughout Kaneva’s existence and stood at the forefront of protecting churches’ rights to publish and share their content freely, leading a coalition of ministries in exiting a one-sided publishing contract that had restricted what churches could share and taken a significant cut of every transaction they conducted.
In November 2012, Vision Church expanded into Second Life, running services across multiple virtual worlds at the same time. In 2014, Second Life became the church’s primary home, where it continues to serve its congregation today alongside a presence in other virtual worlds.
In 2020, Pastor Mullins founded the Mullins Foundation, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing grants and donations to help virtual churches and programs survive. The foundation has since grown into a broader resource hub for metaverse ministries and organizations, offering free tools, a five-point financial planning system for churches, and currently building for a cross-platform database of metaverse churches to help congregations grow and connect.
Vision Church hosted the first Leadership Conference in 2020, bringing leaders together to share insight on building, leading, and sustaining a church presence in the metaverse with more to follow.
Vision Church is not a ministry that stands still.
Pastor Mullins has been selected to serve on the development board of a new next-generation metaverse platform and beyond just advising, he has been chosen to lead and shape the spiritual community for this emerging world. The platform owners have placed their full trust in Pastor Mullins to lead the spiritual development of this new world as he sees fit. Among his key responsibilities is selecting and establishing the founding pastors who will anchor the spiritual life of this platform from the ground up building the faith community the right way, from the very foundation.
It is a recognition of nearly two decades of pioneering work and a mandate to ensure that faith, purpose, and community are built into the foundation of what comes next.
Vision Church are all planning to relocate their headquarters campuses to this new platform in 2028. Vision Church will maintain its presence and congregations across other virtual worlds no community will be left behind but this new platform will serve as the primary hub and permanent home base for the ministry going forward.
In the last quarter of 2026, Vision Church will break ground on the beta campus for this new world a milestone that marks not just a building project, but the beginning of the next chapter of a ministry that has been planting flags in digital spaces since 2007.
Nearly two decades in, the calling has not changed. The platforms have. The congregation has grown. The tools have evolved. But the mission remains exactly what it was in 2007: preach the gospel, reach the people, and trust that God meets us wherever we are willing to go.
Vision Church is a place for everyone. We are non-denominational and Spirit-filled, our worship is alive, our teaching is grounded in the Word, and our community is real even when it exists in a virtual space.
